Skyline Women’s Crew Wins Canadian National Championship, part of program best finishes

6/2/2015

Crew traveled to St. Catharines, Ontario to take on the best the Canadians  (and Americans) had to offer. Canada opens it’s national championships to any single high school team, regardless of country. Every so often you will even see teams from as far afield as Mexico or Argentina. This event is considered one of the fastest regattas in the world for high school rowing.

Similar to a NCAA basketball bracket, each day of competition the teams are whittled down, until only 6 remain on Sunday. Reaching Finals day in Canada is extremely difficult and Skyline did not disappoint, setting a program best mark of 6 boats reaching Sunday.

Skyline’s U16 Women’s Quad (Natalie Lakin, Kate Burns, Morgan Eddins, Ryan Bielawa) won the National Championship in an extremely exciting contest, beating EL Crossley to the line by only 0.9 seconds!

U19 Women’s Double ( Melanie Hampton and Sophia Klein, also US National Champions) took silver behind a very fast boat from Glebe Collegiate
U16 Mens Double (Trevor Force, Ronnie Cantrell) took silver in closely fought contest behind EL Crossley
U19 Women’s Four with Coxswain, Bronze
(Melanie Hampton, Sophia Klein, Kate Burns, Emily Hatch, Olivia Chapman)
U19 Men’s Quad, 5th
(Ben Van Dijk, Ben Bavonese, Zach Burns, Jesse Evers)
U16 Women’s Double, 6th (Ryan Bielawa, Morgan Eddins)
